Happy 4 Year Healthiversary to me!

I can’t believe it’s been 4 years since that day in April when I made the decision to change my life. If I could go back in time and talk to myself 4 years ago, I don’t think my 29-year-old self would even believe the future me. “No, really! You walked over 4 miles today, 3 of them uphill, then came home and ate a cucumber tomato salad… and liked it.”

4 years ago, on the cusp of turning 30, I was determined to lose weight and enjoy my 30s. I had spent the majority of my 20s as a prisoner in my own body. I didn’t want to waste another decade. I made a myfitnesspal account, and began tracking my calories. My first workout was a mile on the treadmill, on zero incline, at a slower than turtle through molasses pace. And I hurt for days afterward. I remember rolling frozen bottles of water under my feet to help with cramping.

In some ways, I can’t believe how far I have come. From the small victories like fitting into a booth at a restaurant, being able to ride a roller coaster again, and driving without the steering wheel scraping my stomach, to the bigger victories like reversing my pre-diabetes and high cholesterol, learning proper nutrition, healing my PCOS, and discovering a true appreciation and love for my body.

I did it! I took back my life. What an amazing gift I have been given!

I can’t wait to see what God has planned for me this year.
